Memorial service for John M. “Johnny” Kirk will be 1 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 3, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 220 N. Seminole Ave., Claremore, with Pastor Mark Burger officiating.

Johnny passed away Sat., Sept. 28, 2013, at Clarehouse, Tulsa, at the age of 70.

The son of Donald Clifford and Mary Elizabeth (Abbott) Kirk was born March 16, 1943, in Hollywood, CA. He attended elementary school in Sun Valley, CA, and junior high and high school in San Jose, CA. Johnny went on to serve in the U.S. Army during Vietnam where he was a printer and an excellent marksman. After he was discharged Johnny went to work in a print shop as a printer. His father had also been a printer. He worked in the print shop for about 15 years, and then went to work as a handyman. On Sept. 16, 2003, Johnny married Marilyn Ann Matthews in Napa, CA. Johnny enjoyed fishing, playing cards, camping, collecting elephant figurines, and traveling. He attended St. John’s Lutheran Church, Napa, CA. Johnny and Marilyn moved to Claremore about a month ago to be closer to her children.

Johnny is preceded in death by his father, Donald Kirk; and brother, Clifford Kirk.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of the home; daughter, Penny Christine Bowen of San Jose, CA; step-children: James Kerr, and Carolyn Hayes and husband, Joe all of Claremore; mother, Mary Elledge of American Canyon, CA; and 2 grandchildren: Sammy and Christopher Hayes.
