Mass of Christian Burial for John Thomas Lindsey will be 1:30p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at St. Cecelia Catholic Church. A prayer service is scheduled at 5:00p.m., Tuesday, June 10 at the funeral home, under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Friends may visit with the family following the prayer service until 8:00p.m. John passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the age of 88.
Born June 24, 1925, in Denison, Texas to James Jackson and Esther Sonora (Holden) Lindsey. John graduated St. Xavier High School as salutatorian with the class of 1943. Following his graduation John enlisted with the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge. John began working at Dallas Lockheed, and then later moved to Tulsa to work for American Airlines. New to Tulsa, John agreed to a blind date and he met Mildred Fern Davis and the two hit it off. They were married in Denison, Texas on December 4, 1950 and made their home in Tulsa. The couple moved to the Claremore area just a few years ago.
John took his role as husband and father very serious, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and woodworking. He also made jewelry and enjoyed grafting trees.
A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend, John is survived by his wife Mildred of their home in Claremore, his children John Thomas Lindsey, II of DeSoto, Texas, Dennis Alan Lindsey of Claremore, Paul Edward Lindsey of Broken Arrow and Susan Teresa (Lindsey) Metcalf of Highland Village, Texas; his grandchildren Alan Lindsey, Courtney Whistler, Jennifer Warren, Melissa Murphree, Joshua Lindsey, Sarah Grillot, Sarah Malesky, Anna Malesky, Carl Anderson, Keven Anderson, Robert Rivers and Jennifer Morales; thirteen great grandchildren; his sisters Quinnie Brooks of Bedford, Texas and Betty Vezina of Penacook, New Hampshire. John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers David Lindsey and James Lindsey and sister Dorothy
Campbell.
