Chelsea Reporter Publisher John G. Lord moved to his heavenly home on March 13, 2023 surrounded by his family and close friends. He was 77.
Born August 16, 1945, in Nowata, Oklahoma, he was the son of Elmer E. and Nancy Lord. He spent his early years in Old Alluwe and attended school there. When Oologah Dam was coming in the town moved and the Lord family as well, moving to the New Alluwe location. John’s parents wanted to move to Nowata, but upon the insistence of John, they moved to New Alluwe, so John could finish school there.
Upon graduation from high school, he took post graduate classes at the Alluwe School Trade School to complete his drafting studies. He had just been accepted for a drafting position in Tulsa when Uncle Sam called and he was drafted into the US Army. He served in the 8th Infantry Division during the Viet Nam era. Although, most of his unit was sent to Viet Nam, he was one of two sent to Germany where he served at Bad Kreuznach. John was honorably discharged from the military in August of 1967. A few months after his return home, he married Linda Sue Pruett on October 6, 1967. The couple had began dating in high school. The newlyweds lived in Chelsea for the first year of their married life and John was employed at Jarvis Texaco. He later began work at Peabody Coal Company, where he served as Warehouse Manager for 10 years. After Peabody left the local area, he started employment at JFJ Industries in Claremore as an Aircraft Rubber Moulding Technician. After 30 years of employment there he settled in as publisher at The Chelsea Reporter. Throughout his life, John has had four main loves, his family and friends, guitars, guns and classic cars. He and some of his friends had a band and they continued to meet and enjoy music until his passing. He also enjoyed recording and had a music studio at his home. If you knew John, you knew he didn’t go in for formal situations, so to honor his request the family will be greeting friends at The Chelsea Funeral Home on Saturday, March 25 from 10 a.m. until noon. Then anyone who wishes is invited to come to Alluwe Community Center for more visitation and sharing of memories.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Lord of the home; son, Justin Lord and wife Misty of Tulsa and grandson, Tyler Moore of Tulsa, many nieces and nephews and life long family friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Nancy Lord and siblings, Marie Harris, Hazel Tynnes, Velma Russel, Selma Sparkman, Bud Lord and Patsy Henry.
