Funeral service for John Arthur Walker will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerold Pilant officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m.
John passed away Mon., Aug. 1, 2016, at Clarehouse at the age of 92.
The son of John Archie Walker and Mary Ellen (Stokes) Walker was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Butler, MO. John was raised in Butler and graduated from Butler High School. At the age of 17, John and his brother lied about their age and entered into the U.S. Army. He served during WWII and drove General Patton. On June 13, 1969, John married Beverly Jackson, and they made their home in Foyil for a couple of years. They later made their home between Claremore and Pryor. Beverly passed away in June 2002. He married Norma Jean (Zimmerman) Cook on March 8, 2005, in Pryor. Norma passed away August 2015.
John was a very intelligent man. He loved to tinker, and could fix or rewire anything. While working at Centrilift he invented a part for their machines that revolutionized their pumps and made them more efficient. Recently, while living in Tulsa he rewired his apartments lobby clock so it would run off of batteries. He also built tractors and lawn mowers for many family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his wives: Beverly and Norma Jean; his parents; and siblings: Doris Hawks, Glen Walker, Aubry Walker, and 2 infant siblings.
He is survived by his nephew, Donald Hawks of Richhill, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
