Services for Johnny Joe Griffin will be 11:00a.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 29th and Yale Church of Christ, Tulsa. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Air Force will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Claremore. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, December 21, from 1pm--8pm, with family receiving visitors from 6pm--8pm. Johnny passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at the age of 87.
Johnny Joe Griffin was born April 26, 1928 in rural Rogers County, to Patrick Joseph "Paddy" and Lottie (Gosnell) Griffin. Johnny graduated from Talala High School and enlisted with the Army Air Force where he proudly served his country. Following his honorable discharge, Johnny enrolled at Oklahoma State University where he studied engineering and became a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. His work career was in aeronautical engineering and he was employed with North American Rockwell and Boeing. He lived in several different communities that included Ft. Worth, Texas, Long Beach, California, Seattle, Washington, and Tulsa. When Johnny found time to relax he loved being on the golf course. He was quite the golfer and had several holes-in-one over the years. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially the Cowboys and the Sooners. He was very close to his nieces and nephews and loved spending time with them and their families. He especially enjoyed the younger great-nieces and nephews who he showered with affection and candy. Johnny was a kind and compassionate person who cared for his parents, sisters, and friends in their times of need.
Those family members that survive include his nieces and nephews Verna Adams, Patsy Rhode, Barbara Wilson, Carol Park, Jimmy Griffin, Jr., Mike Griffin, Teresa Adair, Dewayne Griffin, Toyna Daugherty, Shae Zimmerman, Pam Cox, Douglas L. Boyd and Judith A. Hendricks; many great-nieces and nephews and other extended family members. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings Hazel M. Boyd, Merle LeFan, Pearl Stover, Jimmie L. Griffin, Paddy Wayne Griffin, and Billy Griffin.
