Jon Monte Tilley, born on September 29, 1945. Jon passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024. He was 78. His parents were Elmer Tilley and Mary Ellen (Young) Tilley. His educational path commenced in Turley, culminating in his graduation from McClain High School with the class of 1963. These formative years shaped not only his knowledge but also the values he would carry throughout his life.
Jon’s professional journey started with the Tulsa Fire Department, where he worked with unwavering commitment climbing the ladder to Captain until his retirement in 1989. He then transitioned to Emergency Management Director in Rogers County, contributing further to the safety and well-being of his community. His dedication was not limited to his career; Jon proudly served his country through the US Army, showcasing his commitment to service from an early age.
Family was paramount to Jon. He beloved and cherished his time spent with his wife, Sandy Tilley, son J.T. Tilley, son Kyle Tilley and partner Majestic Ashlock, daughter Kaela Tilley, and son Kole Tilley. His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy, evident in the relationships he cultivated with his grandchildren—Jade Burroughs, Jacey Tilley, Brooklyn Decker, Gunter Tilley, Caeson Decker, Teagan Decker, Weston Decker, C.J. Decker, Lennox Ashlock, and Beckam Tilley. Jon was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Coraline Burroughs, completing the circle of familial love he cherished.
In addition to his family, Jon had a zest for life that was contagious. He found joy in restoring old cars, playing the drums, fishing, and passionately supporting his favorite football team, the OU Sooners. He relished the moments spent with his family, particularly enjoying time with his kids and grandkids, lending a helping hand with their show pigs and celebrating their achievements.
Jon is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mary Tilley, and his brother, Phil Tilley. His legacy will be carried on by those who survive him, who will remember his kind spirit and the indelible mark he left on their lives.
Service for Jon Tilley will be 11:00a.m., Thursday, September 5, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Inola, burial will follow at Sweeten Cemetery in Inola. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 4, from 2pm -7pm.
