Joseph Paul Seifried

Funeral service for Joseph "Joe" Seifried will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Pastor Sam Nichols will officiate. Family will greet friends at the funeral home Thurs. 6-8 p.m.

Joseph Seifried passed away Sunday, July 3 ,2011 at his home in Foyil at the age of 80.

The son of John Paul and Girtha Kindley Seifried was born October 16, 1930 in Tulsa. As a young man he attended Will Rogers High School. There he was active in athletics, especially wrestling. In 1947 he was high school state champion at 103 lbs, and state AAU champion several years. After graduation in 1948 he received a scholarship to attended Oklahoma A & M college in Stillwater. During high school he was introduced to Wanda Lee Price. They were married June 15, 1950 in Tulsa. He worked primarily in sales, and mostly for Sears. In 1969 he opened the Claremore Sears store in Ne-Mar shopping center. His spare time was mostly spent with his family and his race car. He was an avid dirt track racer. In 1958 he was track champion in Coffeyville, 1961 in Muskogee and had several top 10 finishes in Tulsa during his career.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Girtha, wife, Wanda; daughter-in-law, Brenda McCuistian Seifried, sisters and brother-in-laws, Patricia and Jim Jarman and Betty and Hank Catron and great-grandson, Lyndon Lester.

Survivors include his children, Jim Seifried of Claremore, Mike Seifried and wife Kerry of Jay, Wanda Jo McKnight and husband Mike of Claremore and Jackie Anderson and husband Earl of Chelsea; grandchildren, J.P. Seifried of Claremore, JR Seifried and wife Shannon of California, Chris Seifried of Claremore, Jessie Shotpouch and husband Kenton of Jay, Rebeca Moore and husband Kevin of Tulsa, Joe Anderson of Claremore, Shannon Lester and husband Donny of Claremore and Roy McKnight and wife Mischa of Claremore, and 13 great-grandchildren.
