Joy Sue Ann Prettyman

February 12, 1943 — September 3, 2018

Memorial service for Joy Sue Ann Prettyman will be 10:00 am Friday, September 7, 2018, at Foyil United Methodist Church.

Joy passed away at her home in Foyil on Monday, September 3, 2018, surrounded by loved ones. She was 75 years old.

The daughter of Granville Franklin Curry and Louise Virginia (Meeks) Dobbs was born February 12, 1943, in Claremore, Oklahoma. She grew up and attended school in Foyil, graduating with the class of 1961. After high school, she attended Tulsa Business School. In August of 1962, she married Gerald Prettyman in Amarillo, Texas.

Joy later moved back to Oklahoma, living in Oklahoma City, and finally back to Foyil in 1973. This was where she became reacquainted with Bill Ward in 1981. She was an entrepreneur who opened many businesses in Rogers County, such as a restaurant called Hungry House Café and Joy's Book Store, and she also sold Avon. However, her favorite business ventures were flea markets. Joy loved to buy and sell antiques, and make and sell crafts. She had stores in Chelsea and Adair, called Fleas 4 Sale. Even after retirement, she rented booths in many area flea markets. She and Bill often traveled to Montana to visit family, and usually ended up shipping flea market merchandise back to Oklahoma. She loved all holidays and spending time with all of her family and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Sheri Ware.

Survivors include her companion Bill Ward; children Janet Noble (Rick), Billy Ward (Sheri), and Harold Ward (Amber); and brothers Ronnie Dobbs (Nancy), and Donnie Dobbs (Diana); grandchildren Billy Ward, III, Misty Godsey, Cassie Godsey, Meghan Ward, Herbert Ward, Mitchell Godsey, Erika McClure, and Dalton Ward, and numerous great-grandchildren.
