A memorial service to honor and celebrate Julia Helen's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the First Methodist Church in Claremore. Dr. Ray Crawford will officiate.
Julia Helen Latham, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Claremore community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the age of 81. A woman of remarkable kindness, unwavering strength, and boundless love, Julia Helen's warm spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Julia Helen was born on June 5, 1942, in Greenville, Mississippi, to Leo and Martha (Bradley) McGee. She spent her formative years in Gunnison, attending elementary school before graduating from Rosedale High School in 1960. In high school, Julia Helen's vibrant personality shone through her involvement in various activities, including 4H, cheerleading, and basketball. Its also where she would first meet her high school sweetheart, Bobby Latham.
On July 6, 1962, Julia Helen married Bobby Latham at the Methodist Church in Gunnison. Their journey together led them briefly to North Carolina before settling in Yazoo, Mississippi, until 1972 when they made Claremore their home.
Julia Helen was an active member of the community, contributing her time and energy to various organizations, including the Claremore PEO, Aladdin Club, the Tulsa Antique Club and her church First Methodist Church of Claremore. Her interests were diverse, from her love for bridge, cooking, and shopping to the occasional adventures in New York City. However, her greatest joy came from the simple moments spent surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Leo and Martha McGee. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bobby Latham; her son, Bobby Latham, Jr., and his wife, Christy; her daughter, Julia Boatner; and her cherished grandchildren, Caeli McGee, Spencer, and Oscar Boatner, and Brady and Lucy Latham. She also leaves behind her siblings, Bradley Lipsey, Leo George McGee, and Elizabeth Hester, along with a host of other relatives and friends who will deeply miss her loving presence.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to First Methodist Claremore, 1615 Oklahoma 88, Claremore, OK 74017, in memory of Julia Helen Latham, whose legacy of love and compassion will continue to resonate within the hearts of those she touched.
Julia Helen's spirit, her kindness, and her enduring love will be profoundly missed but forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
