Peter Anderson Jr. 11-28-1936 to 04-17-2020
Born in Brownsville Texas to Peter Anderson and Grace Ann Kiddy Stevens formally Anderson.
Pete grew up primarily in a military family where he lived in various parts of the U.S. and Europe with his mom, step-dad and siblings. This fostered his love of travel which lasted this lifetime.
They ended up in Claremore OK with his step-dad, Steve Stevens, finishing out his military career working at Oklahoma Military Academy. Pete graduated high school from the Academy.
A petite, pretty girl caught his eye in town. He didn't know her name so he asked his sister, Diana, to set up a meeting. Karon agreed. They were a good match and married on October 17, 1959.
Pete ended up working at American Airlines. He would stay late off the clock to learn the giant mainframe computer system. He was a natural. It led him to teach computer programming for American, the perfect job for him as he had a love for travel and a gift for teaching. He also taught adult Sunday school classes for decades.
He volunteered after retirement as a tour guide for Tulsa Air and Space Museum and with The PAL program as a mentor to young men who needed extra help. He liked to teach them to play backgammon.
He loved taking Karon and his daughters, Debbie and Julie, on fun vacations all over the U.S. and other countries. Pete had a big smile, a big, helping heart and always good for a warm hug. Pete was a wonderful Dad, Papa, brother, uncle, and friend.
Karon Delores Anderson 08-23-1940 to 08-29-2023
Karon was born in Prairie Grove AR. Her parents were Odie and Hazel Allsup. She grew up mostly in Claremore OK and was the oldest of seven siblings.
She was small, shy and quiet. But meeting Pete helped her come out of her shell more and more through the years. She was a stay-at-home mom with a year or two driving a school bus.
She volunteered tirelessly for the church! Even going as a sponsor to youth camp or being a cook at camp. She also taught Sunday School and volunteered as church secretary for decades. Back in the earlier years, she mastered how to set up and run church bulletins on an old offset press the church owned.
In 1987, she opened Claremore Personnel Service with her sister-in-law, Diana, and her oldest daughter, Debbie. She took great pride in her work helping people find jobs.
Later in life she took care of Pete through his long illness. Certainly, throughout her life she spent countless hours praying for family and friends. Many of us have benefitted from those prayers and the faith of Pete and Karon. She was a dutiful, faithful wife, Mom, MeMa, Gammie, sister, auntie, and friend.
