Mass of Christian Burial for Katherine Nan Dean will be held 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 201 6 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Father Sylvanus Amaobi will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of the MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home Mon. 1-7 p.m. A rosary service will be held 7 p.m., Monday, June 13, at the MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel.
Katherine Nan Dean passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the age of 74.
The daughter of Karl and Dorothy House Distel was born October 14, 1941 in Bay Shore, New York. The family moved to Oklahoma and settled in the Justus/Sequoyah area. She attended Justus school and graduated from Sequoyah High School. On a blind date she met Junior Raymond Dean and they were married on Aug. 8, 1966 in Huntsville, AR. They made their home in Collinsville before moving to Claremore in the 1980's. Junior and Kathy celebrated their 23rd anniversary with a recommitment ceremony on Aug. 8, 1989. She retired from Claremore Veterans Center after 22 years of service in 2010. Kathy loved to drive and frequently visited Branson, Silver Dollar City, Woolaroc, and Mohawk Park. She attended daily Mass at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, and enjoyed visiting with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Karl, Edward, and David Distel; and niece, Cindy Hildebrand.
Katherine is survived by her husband, Junior Dean of the home; sister, Dolores "Dee" Hildebrand and husband, Sam of Claremore; sisters-in-law: Della Jones of Muskogee, and Verna Dean of Claremore; aunt, Francis Scheffel of Sayville, NY; nieces and nephews: Christy Wagner and husband, Devin of Ft. Worth, TX, Aubrey Hildebrand and wife, Sharon of Collinsville; and great-nieces and nephews: Matthew, Kristen, Grace, Lauren, Reed, and Leyna.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Cecilia Memory Bible or St. Cecilia Food Pantry, c/o St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 1304 N. Dorothy Ave., Claremore, OK 74017.
