Funeral service for Kenneth James Keltner will be held on Monday, Augusst 22, 2016 at the MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Richard Billings will officiate. Burial will follow at Dawes Cemetery in Chelsea.
Kennth passed away at his home in Claremore on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the age of 91.
The son of Guy and Flossie Dye Keltner was born February 1, 1925 in Adair, Oklahoma. He was raised in ruarl Adair where he attended Central View Grade School. Later his family moved to Chelsea where he attended Chelsea High School. However wanting to help his family Kenneth left school early and began working doing odd jobs. At the age of 19 he became old enough to begin working in the oil fields. This led to a life long career begining with the Harmon and White Hill Oil Company.
It was a short time later that he met Verna Stanton. The two where in Chelsea at a local outdoor skating rink. A few days later they went on thier first offical date to the high school football game. They would marry on December 16, 1950 at the home of Stuart and K.B. Milam. The couple settled in Chelsea and began raising thier family.
In 1964 working now for Amax Oil company. Kenny was transferred to Upton, Wyoming. He worked there until retiring in 1986 and moved back to Claremore.
Throughout his life Kenny had many hobbies and pasttimes. He loved fishing and hunting. Playing games such as bowling, pool, cribbage and dominoes.
There was also a love to serve his communtiy. This led him to joinging the Masonic Lodge in 1952. He later went on to serve as a Shriner while in Wyoming and also when he returned back to Oklahoma. He aslo belonged to the Eastern Stars. Where he served several times as the Worthy Patron. He was also a long time member of the Chelsea First Christian Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Flossie; step-fathers, Fred Garland and Virgil Garner; brother Orville Keltner; step-brother Floyd Garland and half sisters Barbara Garland Smith and Jo Ella Garland-Wilson.
Survivors include his wife Verna of the home; daughter Linda Dian Keltner; grandchildren Tawnya Orsborn Wallace and husband Tommy and James Orsborn; great grandchildren Anthony, Bradly, Chandler, Anthony, Zane, Keyona and Dagon; great-great grandchildren Xyler, Lillianna, Kaleigh and Lillianna.
