Kenneth Joe Ward was born September 11, 1937, in Mannford, OK, to Jack Morris Ward and Rena Bell (Larremore) Ward. He was called home to be with God on Wednesday, February 22, 2012.
Kenny attended various schools in Tulsa and Mannford before moving to Chouteau while in Junior High. He graduated from Chouteau High School in 1956. He then joined the Air Force where he spent four years, most of which were spent in San Francisco, CA, working as a desk clerk.
Upon returning to Oklahoma, he enrolled at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.
Kenny taught at various elementary schools in Tulsa, including McKinley, Lombard, and Eisenhower. He taught Math and Physical Education as well as other subjects. He retired from teaching in 1997 after more than thirty years.
Before, retiring, Kenny was in the race horse business, but after retirement he became more involved. Several of his horses were winners, so his methods must have been successful. In recent years he went into a partnership stud business with Lance Evans, who he loved like a son.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Lincoln Ward.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Mace and Meagan Ward, and a granddaughter, Camryn, all of Broken Arrow; one brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Glenda Ward of Chelsea, three nieces, Robin Durant of Big Cabin, DeAnn Moore of Chelsea, and Ruth Ward of Owasso; one nephew, Clint Ward of White Oak, as well as many great-nieces and –nephews and a host of friends and other relatives.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Mon., Feb. 27, at First Baptist Church of Chelsea with Rev. Ben Calmer officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Air Force will follow at Chelsea Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sun. 1-6 p.m.
