Service for LaRea Faye West will be 1 p.m., Thursday, June 9, at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens Chapel with Pastor Paul Simpson officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday 1-8 p.m.
LaRea passed away Sun., June 5, 2016, at Hillcrest Hospital South, Tulsa, at the age of 90.
The daughter of Albert Nees and Elsie (Lawrence) Nees was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Oilton. She met Jack W. West in a diner in Talala. After Jack came back from serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII, they were married and made their home in Kansas City while Jack attended watchmaking trade school. After he completed school they made their home in Claremore. They were owners of Heins Jewelry and their family was a founding member of Trinity Baptist Church in Claremore. They were members of the Claremore VFW, and most recently attended Memorial Heights Baptist Church.
LaRea enjoyed taking care of her home and family, attending church, and gardening.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack W. West; sister, Corintha "Sis" Emigh; and brothers: Steve and Kenneth Nees.
LaRea is survived by her children: Victor T. West of Claremore, Sandra W. VanZandt and husband, Doug of Owasso, and Marc D. West and wife, Adrienne of Claremore; grandchildren: Jodee E. Harris and husband, Todd of Mounds, and Mitchell D. West of Claremore; great-granddaughter, Rylee E. Harris of Mounds; niece, Becky Summers and husband, Charles of Mounds; and nephew, Kenny Emigh of Sand Springs.
