Larry Henry Kindley passed away on Thursday June 28th, 2018 at the age of 76.
The son of Lawrence E. and Lois A. Rosser Kindley was born on August 28, 1941 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. As a young boy he was raised in Bixby. There he attended Bixby schools where he played drums in the band and worked after school at the horse stables. After graduating in 1959, Larry went to Phillips University on a band scholarship. However, after a short time, he left school and focused on his working career. It was also during this time that he married Betty Terry his high school sweetheart. To this marriage two sons were born, Russell and Darrell.
Over the years Larry had an extensive working career. As a young boy it started with him working on his family farm. That's where his love for horses and cattle developed. He sold insurance for Metropolitan Insurance. It was always one of his favorites, because it introduced him to Edith Diem. They would marry on February 22, 1968 in Inola and soon after he adopted Edith's 4 yr old daughter Viki. With Edith's encouragement Larry returned to Northeastern State University and earned his teaching degree. He then returned home to Inola and began coaching and teaching grade school. After teaching, Larry dabbled in a few other careers. He drilled oil wells, ran a guardrail business, built boat props, ran a hot shot delivery service, owned a restaurant and pool hall and even became a professional fisherman. His love for fishing led him to establish his last company which was Chouteau Marine Services and Sales.
Larry also had many other hobbies and enjoyments. He enjoyed singing high tenor in a quartet, team roping, and raising horses and cows. However his favorite hobby was drag boat racing. Over the years he and his boat Nuclear Fishin' won many world championships. In fact his racing hobby has continued all the way down to his great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lois Kindley; wife, Edith, and brother Justin Kindley.
Survivors include his children, Russell and Sharla Kindley of Inola, Darrell Kindley and wife Lois of Guntersville, Alabama, and Viki Holbrook and husband Paul of Inola; grandchildren, Brandee Mckay, Kevin Kindley, Hailee Kindley and Josh Kindley, Matt Kindley, Chelsea Waldheim, Brittany Parsons, Tabitha Landsaw, and Zac Holbrook and 14 great-grandchildren.
