A visitation will be held for Larry Gene Nixon of Inola on Monday May 17 from 1pm till 6pm at the Inola Funeral Home and Crematory. Private family services will follow.
Larry died Thursday May 13, 2010 at his home in Inola.
Larry Gene Nixon was born February 10, 1942 in Fort Smith AR. to Vernon Lee and Okla (Sutton) Nixon. Larry grew up and attended school in Carlsbad, NM. After he completed high school, Larry attended New Mexico State University where he was active in the ROTC. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964, Larry joined the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant. He served in Vietnam, Germany and Taiwan before being honorably discharged as a Captain in 1975. Larry went on to work several jobs before going to work for the Salvation Army as the Transportation Supervisor. He retired in 2000 due to his declining health. Larry was an excellent baseball player as a youth, who was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed reading about history.
Larry was preceded in death by his father.
Larry is survived by his mother Okla Nixon of Inola, two brothers, Gary Nixon and wife Velma of Inola and Bobby Nixon of Inola. Three daughters Michelle, Cathy and Marie. Six grandchildren, four nieces and two nephews.
