Graveside service for Chelsea resident Larry Wilson will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Chelsea Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Wednesday; February 1, at Chelsea Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Larry passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Claremore Veterans Center. He was 74 years old.
The son of Jesse and Lorene (Blair) Wilson was born February 6, 1948, on the family farm near Chelsea. He grew up and attended school in the Chelsea area, first at Condry School, then Chelsea Public Schools, where he graduated in 1966. After high school, he attended Oklahoma Military Academy before serving his country in the U.S. Army. He served at Ft. Polk, LA, and Ft. Hood, TX, where he earned many awards and medals.
After his service to his country, Larry continued his education at Northeastern State University, earning his BS in Education degree in 1975.
On December 30, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Berry. The two were blessed with one daughter, Crista. He also had a special spot in his heart for Ryan Theys, who called him "Daddy Larry".
The most important part of Larry's life was his faith in God. Over the years, he attended the Chelsea Free Holiness Church, the Chelsea Assembly of God, and the Sanctuary Church.
Larry held a few jobs in his lifetime. The Chelsea Mill was like a second home to him, with his Uncle Earl and Aunt Pansy. Aunt Pansy cooked many of his favorite dishes, including wiener soup and custard pie. He also taught high school math at both Alluwe and Chelsea high schools. In addition to his teaching career, he was also a Keller Williams Realtor.
In his spare time, Larry enjoyed many hobbies, such as hunting, fishing, raising and caring for his cows, and attending auctions, farm sales, and ballgames. He loved to prepare the south pond each summer for a day camp for the kids from church, where they fished and played. He loved chocolate, especially chocolate ice cream, which he would eat all year round. In the winter, he would sit by the fire with his bowl of ice cream.
Larry loved and was loved by many family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patricia, "Patty" Wilson, sisters-in-law Sherry Wilson and Diana Berry, grandson Laramie Clel Marvin, grandparents, and aunts, uncles, and cousins. All were waiting to welcome him home.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife Carol; daughter Crista Lynn Marvin and husband Matt; grandchildren Shawnie Forest Pinkston and husband Brandon, and Cierra Nicole Tautimer and husband Jose; great-grandchildren Elijah Warren Pinkston and Abigail Grace Pinkston; brothers Jerry Wilson and wife Sharon, Garry Wilson and wife Reba, Mike Wilson and wife Felicia, and Bobby Wilson; brothers-in-law Glenn Berry and wife Chelsea, Joe Berry and wife Sharilyn, and Chad Berry and wife Christy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
