Funeral service for Bertha Lavaun Marlin will be 2 p.m., Friday, June 10, at Harmony Starr Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Cotner officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Cemetery under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday 1-8 p.m.
Lavaun passed away Mon., June 6, 2016, at the age of 97.
She was born June 22, 1918 to William Hancher and Gertrude West Vincent in the Owallah District of Rogers County, about five miles west of Foyil. She was one of five siblings. Most of her life was spent in rural Rogers County. She attended Foyil school, graduating in 1936. She attended the Methodist Church since she was five years old. At the age of 15 or 16 she was saved and baptized in the Verdigris River west of Foyil.
In her junior year of school, she was introduced by friends to Clyde Marlin of Claremore. There were married February 12, 1937, making their home in Claremore, Oklahoma. They were blessed with five children, four sons and one daughter. Dale, Donna, Jim Bill, and Clint. Over the years they attended non-denominational Sunday schools and churches, later the First Church of God. In 1956 they moved to their present home on the Mayes/Rogers county line. She enjoyed sports, especially basketball and baseball, camping, fishing, reading and sewing.
Lavaun was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; sons: Jim and Bill; her parents; grandparents; 2 sisters; and 1 brother.
She is survived by brother, Dale and wife, Jettie of Texas; daughter, Donna Nelson and husband, Rich of California; sons: Dale Marlin and wife, Loretta of Kellyville, and Clint Marlin and wife, Debi of Claremore; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
