Funeral service for Leazanne Bell will be 10 a.m., Thurs., May 31, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Lynn Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of the Inola Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m.
Leazanne died Mon., May 28, 2012, at Inola Health Care Center at the age of 52.
The daughter of Rodney N. and Catherine Ann (Patty) Hopkins was born May 29, 1959, in Marion, IN. Leazanne attended Marion High School where she ran the mile in track. She graduated in 1977. She continued her education at Ball State University in Muncie, IN, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Health Science and Physical Education. Leazanne lettered in LaCrosse and Field Hockey at Ball State from 1978-80. She earned a Master's degree in Health Education from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. On July 9, 1989, Leazanne married Darren Joe Bell in Marion. They moved to Oklahoma, where Leazanne worked for a wilderness training camp outside of Tahlequah. She taught at Haskell Middle School, Broken Arrow schools from 1983-91, and Inola schools from 2002 to the present. Leazanne earned Teacher of the Year in 2005 and 2007. She was a biology teacher and outdoor classroom coordinator. While her sons were young, Leazanne ran the Mother's Day Out program at First Baptist Church. She was also active as the Pre-school coordinator at First Baptist Church, and later as the Children's coordinator at Calvary Baptist Church. Leazanne enjoyed gardening.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Darren in 2004; her mother, Catherine; and brother, Jeff Hopkins.
Leazanne is survived by her sons: Brandon and Kevin Bell of the home; father, Rodney Hopkins and wife, Mary Lue of Harlingen, TX; brothers: Mike Hopkins of Marion, IN, and her twin brother, Pat Hopkins and wife, Pam of Leadhill, AR; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 5 S. Broadway, Inola, OK 74036. Contributions will go to mission trips and camps.
