Leon Gregory, a devoted family man, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving family.
Leon was born on August 15, 1939, in Tahlequah, OK, to Clyde and Anna Mae (Wainwright) Gregory. He spent his early years in the Tailholt Community, where he attended school before moving to Tahlequah for high school. Raised by his grandparents, Leon held a special place in his heart for his grandma, who remained one of his favorite people throughout his life.
In 1963, while in California, Leon crossed paths with Dolly Hand, and this meeting grew into a friendship. They started their journey together, and on November 15, 1964, Leon and Dolly would marry, beginning a marriage that would span 58 wonderful years.
As a father, Leon's love and creativity knew no bounds. He thrived in the role of being a dad, going above and beyond to ensure his children experienced the joy of childhood. From constructing homemade vehicles and go-karts that were referred to as "death traps" to building a tiny house with electricity and plumbing for his daughters. Leon's commitment to providing a fun-filled upbringing was unmatched.
With the arrival of grandchildren, Leon's love expanded. He loved being with them and cherished every opportunity to create memories with them. During the Winter, Leon would shovel their driveway by hand and would build large piles of snow for his kids and grandkids to sled down. He would save snow in barrels and freeze for his kids to enjoy all year long.
Leon’s departure has left a void that cannot be filled, but his love, creativity, and lasting impact will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of those fortunate enough to have known him.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and great-grandson, Zekiel.
Leon is survived by his wife, Dolly; two brothers; daughters, Audrey Zimmermann and husband, Ed, Stephanie Fruitman and husband, Tim, Tiffany Moss and husband, Jerry, and April Eiser; grandchildren, Kristen, Scott, Matthew, Cody, Savannah, Alexis, Natalie, Austin, and Blake; great-grandsons, Xavier and David.
