Leonard Virgil "Leo" Burns passed away from complications of diabetes and heart disease on Sat., June 15, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 69.
The son of Andrew Jackson "Jack" and Opal Maxine (Bates) Burns was born July 20, 1943, in Tulsa. He graduated from Central High School in 1961. While growing up he enjoyed playing baseball, and played violin for many years. While in high school he began working at Sear's as a salesman in the sporting goods department. He continued working there while he attended the University of Tulsa. Leo enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. After coming home he began working at the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He retired in 1999. On November 28, 1968, Leo married Nancy Ann Russell in Tulsa. They made their home in Claremore. Leo enjoyed riding motorcycles, listening to blue grass music, square dancing, woodcarving, and watching OU football on TV. He also enjoyed working outdoors, gardening, trimming trees, camping, and a good boat ride.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Leo is survived by his wife, Nancy of the home; sons: Andy Burns and wife, Cathy of Claremore, and Danny Burns and wife, Christina of Phoenix, AZ; and grandchildren: Addy and Grace Burns.
