Funeral service for Lillian E. Burns will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel in Claremore. Pastor Mike Clark will officiate. Burial will follow at Wards Grove Cemetery.
Lillian Burns passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012 in Claremore at the age of 96.
The daughter of Donald and Martha Wright Whiteside was born January 30, 1916 in the rural Rogers County community of Love.
She attended Cherokee Central and Bushyhead schools. A short time later while at a church function she met Roy "Vic" Burns. They were married March 5, 1934 in Claremore. They made their home in the Bushyhead area. There they began to raise their family. Her family was the center of her life, and she held a special place in all the hearts of her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies included crocheting and traveling. She was also known to be a great cook.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Martha; husband Vic; 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Burns of Claremore and Doug and Milinda Burns of Bushyhead; daughters, Leota McSpadden of Chelsea, Juanita Brown of Chelsea and Lola McMillen of Chelsea; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
