Funeral service for Lizzie Mildred Dick will be 11 a.m., Monday, July 27, at First Baptist Church of Chelsea with Pastor Jay McAlister officiating. Burial will follow at Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of the Chelsea Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday 1-6 p.m., and family will greet friends 2-4 p.m.
Lizzie passed away Thurs., July 23, 2015, at Wood Manor Nursing Home at the age of 96.
The daughter of William Craton Tatum and Mamie Viola (Church) Tatum was born July 9, 1919, in Alluwe. Lizzie attended Lee Square school. On Sept. 28, 1940, she married William Virgil Dick in Nowata. They made their home in Chelsea, and Lizzie was a member of the First Baptist Church. Lizzie enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking for them. She was famous for her "Lizzie pickles", and enjoyed making brown beans and homemade rolls for her son, Jim. Lizzie also loved the Lord and reading her Bible, sewing, and crocheting.
Lizzie was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; son, Jerry Lee Dick; her parents, William and Mamie Tatum; brothers: Fred and Walter Tatum; and sisters: Lula Dawes and Pauline Lewis.
She is survived by her son, Jim Dick and wife, Linda of Joplin, MO; grandchildren: Jaime Dick and Cory Jones, Melissa Bennett and husband, Jeff, and Brian Dick all of Joplin, MO; brother, Bill Tatum and wife, Audrey of Palestine, TX; and great-granddaughter, Madison Bennett.
