Lloyd Wayne Cowan passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the age of 93.
He was born September 11, 1922 in Winganon, OK, to Roy and Addie Cowan. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 1941. Lloyd served in World War II as a U.S. Army Radio Engineer and became Staff Sergeant for the 933rd Engineer Aviation Regiment. He made the invasion of Okinawa, Japan on April 1, 1945. After the War, Lloyd got his degree in Radio, Television and Radar from Kansas City School of Electronics. During his career he worked as an Electronic Engineer for KELI Radio, KTUL-TV and KJRH-TV in Tulsa, OK. On May 8, 1946 Lloyd married Louise Oliven Ward at the Wheeling Avenue Christian Church in Tulsa, OK. They had two sons Larry Wayne and Clifton Ward Cowan and made their home in Tulsa, OK. Louise and Lloyd were divorced in 1967. Lloyd was married to Maebelle Homes in 1969 and she died from cancer on February 1978. He Married Eula Virginia Reed on June 28, 1980. They made their home that Lloyd built himself in Claremore, OK on Oologah Lake. They were members of First Christian Church in Claremore. Lloyd served the church in many capacities he was on the Board of the Deacons and Elders, Building Chairman and Congregation Chairman. He was active in civic organizations and served as President of the North Tulsa Kiwanis Club, President of the Oil Capital Optimist Club of Tulsa, Lt. Governor of Optimist International and helped form the Claremore Optimist Club. During retirement, Lloyd continued to work in the church, help build houses for Habitat for Humanity and delivered for Meals on Wheels. He was an avid golfer, won several trophies and had a hole-in-one on his 70th birthday. He loved carpentry and working on and repairing anything mechanical. He lost his wife Eula on May 9, 2009 to heart disease. Lloyd is survived by his brother Robert Cowan and sister-In-Law Faye Cowan of Claremore; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Diedra Cowan of Bartlesville, OK, Cliff and Patricia Cowan of North Richland Hills, TX; grandchildren, Natalie and husband Terry Brewer of Chicago, IL, Jessica Cowan and fiancée, Zain Naboulsi of Katy TX, Karina Cowan and Alex Robinson of Bartlesville, OK; great-grandchildren Aidan Brewer and Corrin Brewer of Chicago, IL. A memorial service will be held Saturday at noon, February 20 at First Christian Church, 200 E 5TH St; Claremore, OK 74017.
