Memorial service for Lois June Ward will be 1 p.m., Thurs., Jan. 20, at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Burger officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory.
Lois died Sun., Jan. 16, 2011, at Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, at the age of 84.
The daughter of John Henry and Wilhelmina (Meyer) Prange was born June 29, 1926, in Green Bay, WI. Lois graduated from high school in Benson, IL. She continued her education by attending nursing school in Milwaukee, WI. She graduated in 1947 and received her degree as a Registered Nurse. Lois worked in Milwaukee for a couple of years before moving to Dallas, TX, in 1949. She met her future husband, Cleetus Calvin Ward, in 1951; and they were married in April 1953. They moved to Tulsa in 1959, and to Claremore in 1964. Lois worked at Franklin Hospital for a short time, and then went to work with the Rogers County Health Dept. as a public health nurse. She retired after 20 years of service. Lois was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, was a member of the LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League), and helped to make Braille books. Lois was always at the church helping in any way she could. She was also honored for her many years of helping with Meals on Wheels. She dearly loved her grandchildren and dogs; and also enjoyed traveling.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Cleetus; parents; son, Martin John Ward; and siblings: Vera Prange, Ralph Prange, Roy Prange, Orva Donovan, and Eunice Weist.
She is survived by her son, Steven Ward of Claremore; daughters: Jodie Fox and husband, William, and Anne Gates and husband, Eric all of Oklahoma City; grandchildren: Elizabeth Neal and husband, Chris of Bartlesville, Sarah Buchheit and husband, Brian of Columbia, MO, Alexandria Donwerth and husband, Davin of Oklahoma City, Gavin Groff who is currently serving in the Air Force and stationed at Keesler AFB, MS, Marti, Emily, and Tyler Gates all of Oklahoma City; and two great-grandchildren: Mackenzie Neal of Bartlesville, and Elijah Gates of Oklahoma City.
