Lorena Frances Jantz passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the age of 85.
The daughter of John and Emma Baergen Nickel was born October 21,1933 in Bessie, Oklahoma. As a young girl she was raised on the family farm in Corn, Oklahoma. There she would later begin school at Corn Bible Academy. In her high school years her family moved to the Chouteau area. There she attended Chouteau High School, graduating in 1951. After high school she enrolled in a local cosmetology school. Upon graduating from there, she and her sister Florence Moore opened their own salon. It was also around this time, while attending services at Eden Mennonite Church, that she met Victor Jantz. They began dating, and married on September 13, 1952. In the years to follow Lorena focused more on her family than her career. Being a good wife and mother was her primary goal. Her family and many friends recall her great love of cooking. In fact, most people that knew her at one point had her chocolate chip cookies, pepper nuts, cinnamon rolls, or her famous Easter bread.
In her spare time Lorena had many hobbies and pastimes, such as sewing, embroidery, crocheting, and quilting. She also loved sports, especially when her children and later her grandchildren were playing. In fact, she attended so many Chouteau sporting events that they elected her sports fan of the year. Her church was also just as important. There she served in Women In Missions, the food committee, prayer pals, and the annual MCC sale.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma Baergen; husband, Victor Jantz; sister, Betty Plett; and two infant brothers, Edward Ray and Albert Roy.
Survivors include her children Bernice VanZyl and husband Chris of St. Louis, Missouri, Barry Jantz and wife Lindy of Branson, Missouri, and Danny Jantz and wife Kelly of Chouteau; grandchildren, Casey Williams and wife Ashley, Victor Jantz and wife Megan, Andrew Jantz, Angela Henderson and husband Spencer, Ashley McGlasson and husband J.R., Amanda Troskey and husband Zac, and Shelby Landburg and husband Jared; great-grandchildren, Tristen, Emma, and Ethan Troskey, Hannah Stumpf, Gabriel Sheats, Braxton and Piper Landburg, Henry Williams, Carson Jantz, and Liam and Graham McGlasson; sisters, Doris Helms, Carolyn Penner and husband John Wayne, and Florence Moore; brother, Gary Baergen, and numerous other extended family.
