Funeral service for Mabel L. Green will be 2 p.m., Fri., Dec. 28, at the Chelsea Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Hancock officiating. Burial will follow at Chelsea Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 3-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.
Mabel passed away at her home Fri., Dec. 21, 2012, at the age of 91 after battling cancer.
The daughter of Henry Lewis and Virgie Caroline Burchett was born March 16, 1921, in Nowata. On May 4, 1938, she married Otis Foster Green at the Baptist church in Claremore. Mabel worked as a cook, waitress, and nurses aide. At one time they owned the Pig N Pen Diner on Hwy. 66. In 1986, she retired from Chelsea Nursing Home. While living in Chelsea, Mabel attended The Sanctuary Christian Worship Center. After moving to Tulsa, she attended New Song Apostolic Church. Mabel enjoyed helping people, attending church, gardening, and garage sales. She was a great cook, and was known for making pies. She loved family events and her family was always her priority.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Foster; her parents; brother, Harvey Burchett; sister, Irene Davis; brothers-in-law, Harold Davis and Alvie Green; sister-in-law, Pearl Burchett; and son-in-law, John Gilmer.
She is survived by her daughters: Margaret Sue Titus and husband, Tom, and Shirley Ann Green of Tulsa; grandchildren: Cynthia Renee Gilmer and Michael Dwayne Travis and wife, Kathy of Leonard, OK; great-grandchildren: Dillon Travis of Leonard, and Tommy Travis and wife, Misty of Tulsa; sister, Novie Green of Roseburg, OR; and brother, Ed Burchett and wife, Betty of Miami; along with a number of great-great-grandchildren, many cousins, and extended family and friends.
