Mable passed away Friday, April 2, 2010 in Claremore at the age of 89.
The daughter of Charles and Sarah Mills Stierwalt was born May 15, 1920 near Childers, Oklahoma. She was raised in the Alluwe and White Hill communities. As a young girl she began attending the White Christian Church. There she was baptized and at the age of 9 began singing in the choir. In 1938 she graduated from Alluwe High School. She then enrolled in the Coffeyville Beauty Academy, graduating in March of 1940. The next few years would have her working in Nowata, and then Claremore. On July 2, 1956 she married Yewel "Gene" Harris in Claremore. In November 1947 she moved to Chelsea and opened Mable's Beauty Shop, which she operated for more than 60 years. Mable became an active member at the First Christian Church in Chelsea in October 1984. It was also in Church that she continued her love of music. She sang in the choir, was a member of the bell choir, and sang at many church functions. Mable was always a happy person with a comforting smile. This trait made it easy for her to make friends everywhere she went.
She is preceded in death by her husband Gene, parents Charles and Sarah Stierwalt; brothers, Robert and Glen Stierwalt; sister, Eva Sigler; sister of the heart Maxine Williams, daughter of the heart Karen Clancy; brother of the heart Dale Mills; and great grandsons Jonathan and Evan Haley.
