Visitation will be at Chelsea Funeral Home from 1-8 p.m. on Monday, March 15, with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Margaret passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at the age of 76.
The daughter of George "Bud" Mitchell and Mary Jo Mitchell was born in Chelsea on October 7, 1944. She attended Big Cabin Schools until her senior year, when she transferred to Chelsea High School, and graduated with the class of 1963. She enjoyed playing basketball during high school, and also played co-ed softball for several years after high school. She was also a little league softball coach to many area youth.
At her high school prom, she met David Meeks, who was the drummer for the Night Owls, which was the band who played for the prom. They were married in 1967.
Margaret was a hard worker throughout her life. Soon after graduation she began working for Gateway Luggage in Claremore. She also worked at Mini Mart in Chelsea, but for most of her career, she worked at EE Sewing, until the Covid crisis forced a layoff in February of 2020.
Margaret loved her family tremendously. She always supported her son and grandchildren in all their sporting events. She also loved the Chicago Cubs, and one of the highlights of her life was when she was able to see them play at Wrigley Field in 2015. She was a great story teller who loved to make people laugh.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Mary Jo Mitchell, her brother Tom Mitchell, sister Mildred Brooks, and sister-in-law Debbie Mitchell.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Meeks and wife Felicity; grandchildren Caitlin Meeks, Cassidy Meeks, Chase Meeks, Tylar Lucas, and Justin Lucas; great-grandchildren Riley Lucas, Marli Lucas, and Cassius Underwood; brother George Mitchell and wife Ann; sisters Myrna Denton, and Diane Mitchell; nine nieces and nephews; and numerous extended family members.
