Margaret Jane Rooks passed away on Friday, January 4th, 2019 at the age of 82.
The daughter of Jacob and Beulah Baker Wassom was born February 24th, 1936 in Wagoner, Oklahoma. There she was raised and attended school. She graduated from Wagoner High School as a member of the class of 1954. Shortly after graduating, she and her sister moved to Tulsa. She eventually took a job working for Sharp Finance. It was while working there that she met Elvin Rooks, a young man who just happened to come by and apply for a car loan. They began dating and married on November 3, 1967. Over the next few years, the newly wed couple continued living in Tulsa. However, in 1973, they decided to move to the country, where they found their ideal home just outside of Inola. She continued working in Tulsa until retiring from Gas Processors Association in the late 1990's. After retiring, she found time to focus on some of her more enjoyable hobbies, such as vegetable and flower gardening, fishing, and taking care of all of her farm animals. She also had more time to enjoy reading the daily paper, which she read from cover to cover every day.
Margaret always put her family first. During her years as a single mom, her children remember her walking to work, and going without just so they could have more. They also remember all the fun family trips to the lake, where she was able to enjoy one of her favorite past times of water skiing, even though she couldn't swim. She always made the best out of any situation, and her family always came first.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Beulah; husband Elvin; brothers, Perry, Wayne, and Lonnie, and sister Martha.
Survivors include her daughters, Deborah Aaron of Owasso, and Janet Chasteen and husband Otto of Inola; grandchildren, Mandy, Chris, Crystal, and Brynne; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kelsey, Cody, Justice, Tyler, Morgan, Brandon, Dawson, and Hunter; great-great-grandaughter, Lucy; and brother, Kenny Wasson and wife Linda of Wagoner.
