Margie June Walker

August 28, 1940 — October 9, 2010

Margie June Walker, 70, went to heaven on Saturday morning, October 9. Born August 28, 1940, in Grandfield, Oklahoma, to Gene and Velma Potts, Mrs. Walker was raised in Faxon, Oklahoma, where her parents owned the general store. After graduating from Lawton High School, she studied nursing. An excellent nurse, Mrs. Walker loved caring for the elderly and spent many years serving them. She had a heart as big as the universe and was known for reaching out a helping hand to anyone, not just those in need. She never met a stranger and always had a beautiful smile and warm embrace for everyone. A gifted seamstress, Mrs. Walker showered her friends and loved ones with beautifully embroidered baby clothes, pillow cases, and shirts over the years. She was an avid reader, enthusiastically passing along her latest favorites.

Mrs. Walker attended St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Claremore. She loved to sing the old hymns but would tap her foot to newer songs she didn’t know. She soaked up God's word and had no problem asking her pastor a question mid-sermon. Mrs. Walker ministered to others by taking orders for the church's Angel Food ministry, passing out coffee, juice and donuts on distribution day, or just talking and praying with those who needed a kind word.

Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother Bill Potts and daughter Suzanna Bailes, both of Claremore, Oklahoma, and her son Eric Sandberg of California. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Michael Walker and Kallie Haney of Claremore, and Bradley Sandberg of California, nieces Shaine Nichols and Shelly Davis of Claremore, and six wonderful great-grandchildren: Jaden Casey, Joseph M. Walker, Kelsey Haney, Wyatt Haney, Hattie Haney and Tenetke Haney. She loved them all dearly.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 12 at 2pm at the Lone Elm Cemetery on Hwy 20 just west of Claremore. It is located just before crossing the Verdigris River. Pastor P.J. Stewart will be officiating.
