Marie was born on May 18, 1927 in Webb City, Oklahoma to Edgar Lee Hughes and Edna Hazel (Hall) Hughes. She grew up in Stillwater, Oklahoma and graduated from Stillwater High School. She also attended Oklahoma A&M College (OSU). On July 4, 1945 she married her “soldier boy, “James W. Park, when he returned from battle in WWII. She survived breast Cancer twice and in 2008 was recognized as the longest living breast cancer survivor in the State of Oklahoma during the Susan B. Koman Walk for the Cure in Tulsa

Her compassion and concern for others served her well in her career and in her life. After retirement she and her husband were able to travel, enjoy grandchildren’s sporting events and doing volunteer work for Claremore Meals on Wheels and the Claremore Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She loved her garden, playing bridge, reading, quilting, sewing and trips to the casino. But most of all she loved having company…and the coffee pot was always brewing. She had a zest for life and never met a stranger.
