Marilyn Ann Kirk passed away on September 9th, 2023, at the age of 79, with her family by her side. She was born April 16, 1944, in Fresno, California, to Earl and Ellen (Goos) Matthews. Marilyn grew up in Modesto and attended Modesto High School where she graduated in 1962. She continued her education at Modesto Junior College and obtained her Associate degree in 1964.
Marilyn married in 1966 and moved to Tulsa. She was a stay at home mom until she began her career with Tulsa Public Schools in 1982 as a secretary at Edison High School. She continued with TPS at St. John's Hospital Alternative Learning and Shadow Mountain Alternative Learning. She worked for TPS for 22 years. After retirement she moved to Napa California and remarried. She married John Kirk and they were together until his passing in 2013. Marilyn moved back to Oklahoma in 2013 to be close to her kids and grandkids.
Outside of work, Marilyn found fulfillment within Redeemer Lutheran Church. She served as the Evangelism Director and participated in various church activities. Additionally, she dedicated her time to Vacation Bible School and the Lutheran Braille Ministry. Marilyn enriched the lives of countless individuals with her kindness and devotion.
Marilyn made a positive impact on the Claremore community. She demonstrated this by supporting the following local organizations with her time and resources: Safenet Services, She Brews and the Compassionate Women's Center. Marilyn's selflessness knew no bounds as she consistently uplifted others.
In her free time from work, church and community involvement she loved to shop, usually for everyone else. She enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards and eating out. At home she liked tending to her plants and flowers, watching old movies, reading the newspaper and being with her dog, Patches, who was her loving and loyal companion. Marilyn held her family very close to her heart. She loved being a mom and grandma. She spent as much time as she could with her family.
Marilyn is survived by her loving daughter Carolyn Hayes and husband Joseph; her grandsons, Christopher and Samuel Hayes; her sister Sharon Matthews and brother Calvin Matthews; and her dog Patches. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kirk, parents, Earl and Ellen Matthews, and her sons, John Robert Kerr and James Warren Kerr.
Marilyn was greatly loved by her family and friends and will be missed more than she could have ever imagined.
