Marion Katherine Gibbons, known affectionately as Kay and Grammie, passed away on December 23, 2023 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born on August 31, 1939 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Carl and Bessie Hogue.
Kay married the love of her life Jerry Gibbons on April 14, 1978. Together they raised their children and made their home in Inola, Oklahoma, and in 2008 moved to Tulsa. After Jerry's passing, Kay returned home to Inola in 2019.
Kay had an accomplished career that spanned several decades. Her dad, Carl Hogue, owned Hogue's Rexall Drug Store in Pryor, Oklahoma where she worked at the soda fountain and helped in other areas of the store. She dedicated the majority of her working life to the finance industry, serving as a loan processor at First National Bank for many years. Later in her career, she worked at the Rogers County Rural Water District #6 until her retirement in 2005.
After graduating from Pryor High School with the class of 1957, Kay attended Draughon's Business School in 1958. This educational foundation enabled her to excel in her chosen career path.
In Tulsa, Kay and Jerry were members at Asbury Church. After moving back to Inola, she again became a member of the Inola United Methodist Church, where she had previously served as the church secretary for numerous years. Kay and Jerry were faithful members, serving in many roles over the years. Recently, she found great enjoyment rejoining her church family in Inola.
Kay's giving heart was a defining characteristic. She took great joy in serving her community and making a positive impact wherever she went. She volunteered her time and was known as the "Pencil Lady" at Inola Elementary for 8 years, making sure the pencil machine was stocked to ensure students had all the pencils they needed. She took great pride in choosing fun and colorful pencils that all the children enjoyed. Her selflessness and generosity endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
In her spare time, she especially enjoyed time with her family, reading, sewing, counted cross-stitch, and church activities. She loved making clothing items for her grandchildren and cross-stitched gifts for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Bessie Hogue, as well as her husband, Jerry Gibbons in 2018, and her son, Kelly Davis in 2021.
