Funeral service for Marjorie Katherine Abeling will be 2 p.m., Mon., Feb. 28, at the Inola Funeral Home Chapel with Luther Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sun. 1-4 p.m.
Marjorie died Wed., Feb. 23, 2011, at St. John Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 90.
The daughter of Henry and Susie (Raus) Abeling was born Aug. 23, 1920, in St. Charles, MO. She attended the public elementary and high school in St. Charles. Marjorie was an alumna of Lindenwood College and also attended Eastern Illinois State College and St. Mary's College in O'Fallon, MO. After teaching elementary schools in Illinois and St. Louis County, MO, she was employed as a teller at Boatmen's National Bank in St. Louis for 15 years. The next 15 years she worked for the St. Charles City-County Library as an assistant and as the Bookmobile Librarian. She took an early retirement in April 1979 and moved to Inola, OK, where her sister Doris and her family lived. For several years she served as a vote counter at local elections. She was a member of the Inola Public Library Board. Marjorie also belonged to the Inola Methodist Church and held offices in the United Methodist Women's Association. Some of her interests were antique collecting, reading, needlework, gardening, crafts, crossword, and jigsaw puzzles. She belonged to the Handy Hands Club for many years.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Grace Abeling Gage and Doris Abeling Hughes; and nephew, Dick Hughes.
She is survived by niece, Ella Ann Hughes; great-niece, Stacy Wortham; and a number of cousins.
