Mary Zula Barnes

Funeral service for Mary Zula Barnes will be 3 p.m., Fri., Aug. 19, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with her daughter, Sister Linda Daniel, officiating. Burial will follow at Oowala Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-8 p.m.

Mary died Mon., Aug. 15, 2011, at her home at the age of 82.

The daughter of Alva and Lillie Mae (Cox) Rose was born Feb. 4, 1929, in Claremore. Mary attended school west of Claremore in the Limestone area. On March 31, 1947, she married Albert Benjamin Barnes in Chilicothe, IL. They made their home in Claremore, before moving to Illinois where they lived for over 30 years. Mary owned several upholstery shops, and raised German Shepherds. Around 1999, they moved back to Claremore. Mary and Albert were newspaper carriers for the Claremore Progress for the past 11 years. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and canning.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister.

She is survived by her husband, Albert of the home; children: Gene Alison Barnes of Claremore, Linda Mae Daniel and husband, Philip of Mabank, TX, and Shari Allene Woods and husband, Johnny of Atchison, KS; siblings: Truman Nipper of Tahlequah, Cathy Nimmo of Claremore, Geneva Lehman of Tulsa, Laura Nipper of Tulsa, Edith Lustre of Claremore, and Alice Ribbe of Tulsa; grandchildren: Lisa Moncrief, Scott Rueb, Mistie Brown, Shannon Bowen, Allen Barnes, Leon Goner, Jr., Michael Goner, and Raymond Goner; great-grandchildren: Karisa Rueb, Shadia Rueb, Erica Rueb, Jessica Rueb, Trevor Rueb, Brittany Brown, Dylan Brown, Garret Brown, Zachary Brown, Alex Bowen, Nathan Bowen, Shawn Bowen, Jeffrey Barnes, Brady Barnes, Ricky Smith, Mikaela Goner, Whitney Goner, Michael Goner, Javon Smith, Alondre Young, Ivory Goner, and Raymond Goner, Jr.; and great-great-grandchildren: Jaden Barnes, Carmela Santiago, Kamya Rueb, and Janiah Strange.
