Born August 3, 1954 in Ft. Smith, to Robert Lee and Ann (Taff) Hankins, Mary Jo spent 3 years of her young life living in Germany before returning to Arkansas and living in Mulberry. She attended school at Pleasant View, graduating with the class of 1972. Mary Jo continued her education at University of Arkansas, earning a degree in nursing. She worked at a Ft. Smith hospital for a time before relocating to Tulsa and working for St. Francis Hospital. On January 3, 1976, Mary Jo married David Randell Bennett and after a short time in Tulsa, the couple made their home in Claremore. While in Claremore, she worked for the Indian Hospital, retiring there in 1996.
Mary Jo and David enjoyed traveling together and made many trips through the years. She wanted for nothing, David treated her like a queen and spoiled her with anything her heart desired. She never left her home without looking her best and was quite stylish. She enjoyed her family, especially her sisters, but she gave a lot of love to her fur babies. There were several little dogs over the years that were treated with much love and nurturing from Mary Jo. She loved to have a good time and even enjoyed checking her luck at the casinos from time to time.
This wonderful lady will be missed by all who knew her. Those family members that survive include her husband, David; her sisters Diane Peters and husband Jerry and Cindy Hill and husband Steve; her brother-in-law Steve Bennett and wife Janice; her nieces and nephews Jason Bennett, Jared Bennett, Aaron Bennett, Rachael Delaney, Dustin Peters, Lenzi Peters, Sarah Hill Cornett, and Aaron Hill; her aunt, Mary Rowland and many extended family and friends.
