Funeral service for Mary Lee Johnson will be 11 a.m., Wed., Nov. 30, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Rev. Michael Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 8-10 a.m.
Mary died Fri., Nov. 25, 2011, at the Inola Health Care Center at the age of 81.
The daughter of Lucas and Annie Maud (Lee) Denton was born Feb. 20, 1930, in Siloam Springs, AR. Mary was raised in Claremore, and graduated from Claremore High School in 1948. Mary worked in Moore's 5 & Dime, and attended Draughn's Business College. She continued her education in Pittsburg State College in Kansas, where she received her teaching degree. Mary taught school in Derby, KS, Indiana, and Hominy. While in Hominy, Mary taught business typing and shorthand. On Dec. 25, 1974, Mary married Edward O. Johnson at the First Baptist Church in Catoosa. She loved to cook, garden, farming and ranching, playing cards, put together puzzles, and work crosswords. Mary was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church in Cleveland, OK.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Ed; parents; sister, Hazel Dennis; and brother, Ray Barton.
She is survived by her children: Tim Johnson and wife, Tensie of Claremore, and Donna Johnson of Cleveland; sisters: Irene Gill of Pine Bush, NY, Clara Rader of Clute, TX, Georgia Kilpatrick of Searcy, AR, Pauline Rogers of Inola, Sally Ferrel of Broken Arrow, and Betty Crowder of Claremore; grandchildren: Victoria Johnson, Lynnzey Johnson, Preston Johnson, Dallas Clair, Lacey Mercer, and Josh Kyle; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
