Mary Ann Layton passed away Monday, November 5, 2012 at the age of 65.
The daughter of Woodrow and Virginia Brown Hayes was born June 26, 1947 in Chelsea. She was raised in the rural Rogers County community of Winganon. As she became older she began to attend Alluwe schools. It was there that she met Jim Layton. In the years to follow they became high school sweethearts. They married December 18, 1964 at Winganon Baptist Church. Wanting to continue her education she enrolled at Northeastern State University. She would later put some of that knowledge to work, while teaching at Talala Christian Academy. However most of her working career was spent taking care of her family. She was always active in her children's activities, and the church where Jim was pastoring. When Jim was called to serve at Silver Lake Baptist Church in Bartlesville, Mary Ann became involved with Mission Friends. Mission Friends is part of the Women's Missionary Union. She served as the state director of Mission Friends during the mid-80's. Her involvement with her church never ended. She helped do everything from cooking at Falls Creek, treasurer at Winganon Baptist Church, and most recently helping to head up the bereavement committee at First Baptist Church Chelsea. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, gardening, and collecting bells, but most of all she loved spending time with and cooking wonderful meals for her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Woody and Shug Hayes; daughter, Sherri Lubensky, and grandson, Nicolas Lubensky.
Survivors include her husband Jim of the home; son-in-law, Mike Lubensky of Myrtle Beach, SC, daughters, Alison Battles and husband Travis of Chelsea, and Miranda "Mindy" Duncan and husband, Richard of Rossville, Illinois; son, James Layton and wife, Deserae of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; grandchildren, Charles, Philip, Caitlin, Timothy, Jessica, Bruce II, Brandon, Ashleigh, Arik, Aaron, Andrew, Alijah, Reece, Bethany, Matthew, and arriving soon is Madalyn; great-grandchildren, Maggie, Bruce III, Judah, and Cadence; brother, Arthur "Bub" Hayes and wife Winnie of Phoenix, Arizona, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
