Matthew James Matlock made his entrance into the world on March 28, 1983 in Claremore, Oklahoma providing his mother with her
first “keeping it real” moment.
Our cherished, precious Matthew passed away on April 8, 2023 at the age of 40 not leaving him enough time to become a renowned stand up comic or the initiator of creative four letter words to become popular on social media.
Left behind to treasure his memory is his mother, Terry Douglas, of Foley, Alabama; who swears Matthew could never pick a winning team in a bracket, whether it was football or basketball. He just needed to listen to his momma, but he didn’t. This could also be dubbed the story of his life.
Additionally, he is survived by his father, William Matlock, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and his daughter, Caitlyn Cargile, of Catoosa, Oklahoma.
He left behind two sisters, Kristina Anderson of Mustang, Oklahoma and Brittany O’Neal of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma who will never forget his ability to make them laugh uncontrollably, especially at the dinner table. These siblings provided nieces and a nephew he sought to protect and corrupt.
Matthew was the firstborn grandson of Mary Ellen Penick and he was loved deeply, devotedly and unconditionally by his Gran. His other source of love and support was James Penick. Matthew’s Grandpa, who has a long standing tradition of bestowing silly nicknames, called him Buzzard. We may never know why.
Matthew died knowing addiction did not make you a bad person but taking responsibility and atoning for your actions made you a better person.
Visitation will be held on April 13, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at:
MMS - Payne Funeral Home

The family has chosen a private Celebration of Life gathering to honor Matthew’s memory where anyone wearing black will not be allowed to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to MD Anderson Cancer Center or St Jude’s Children’s Hospital because cancer sucks.
