Funeral service for Maudie Alyene Parks will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the United Pentecostal Church of Chelsea. Burial will follow at Dawes Cemetery under the direction of the Chelsea Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
Maudie went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2015 at the age of 81.
The daughter of Ira J. and Gladys Baker Roberts was born August 6, 1934 in rural Broken Arrow. There she was raised in what was known as the Verdigris River bottoms. As she became old enough she began attending school at Hidden Valley, and later Jenks. Being the daughter of a preacher, a hard work ethic was instilled in her. Over the next few years, while on trips to California Maudie worked in the cotton fields, along side her family. Then while back in the Tulsa area she helped manage a local pie shop. However everything changed one evening, when she visited Chelsea with a friend. That day in February at church she met Robert Parks. Then a few months later on June 25, 1955 they married at her parents house in Broken Arrow. They found themselves a little house, and from that point on Maudie made their house a home. This was very important to her, because she believed in having an open door to anyone in need. Then in 1965 after she and family completed building their current home, she and her family moved to Chelsea. However her open door policy never changes. She took pride in keeping a good home with food and fellowship for everyone who stopped by.
In her spare time Maudie had several things she enjoyed. Such as raising a garden, which provided plenty of food for canning. She loved raising flowers, and taking fall foliage tours. However being surrounded by her family and friends was always the most special times for her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Gladys Roberts; 2 infant siblings; sisters, Geneva, Nora Lee and Nancy; brother, Paul; granddaughter, Jeanetta Parks; grandsons, Rodger Dale Parks II, and Tyler Wright, and son-in-law, Chris Wright.
Survivors include her husband Robert of the home; children, Rodger Parks and wife Loretta of Cunningham, KY, Onis Parks and wife Vickie of Chelsea, and Debra Wright of Chelsea; grandchildren, Robert Calhoun, Michael, Polly, Tamara, Megan, Christina, Melissa, Brianna, Jill, Quinton, LaRinda and Katrina; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 sisters, 3 brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.
