Funeral service for Maurice Wilburn "Junior or Kirk" Kuykendall, Jr. will be 2 p.m., Wed., Jan. 19, at the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Rev. Tom Schultz officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Junior died Sat., Jan. 15, 2011, at Clarehouse, Tulsa, at the age of 82.
The son of Maurice Wilburn and Lula Muriel (Martin) Kuykendall was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Tulsa. Junior served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On May 3, 1954, he married Vera Maxine Seabolt in Wagoner. They made their home on their farm in Foyil. Junior loved to raise cattle, and did so for 50 years. He packaged oil for Sunoco Refinery, retiring in 1985. Junior's hobbies included taking care of his cows, and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed playing his fiddle, which he did until he had his stroke. Junior and Vera traveled all around northeastern Oklahoma playing and singing gospel music. It was Junior's most favorite thing to do, living and serving our Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church.
Junior is preceded in death by his son, Kirk Douglas Kuykendall; daughter, Sharon Kay Kuykendall Ross; and his parents, Maurice and Lula Kuykendall.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vera of the home; children: Susan Gail Kassick and husband, Jim of Claremore, Bill O. Kuykendall and wife, Marsha of Claremore, and Gail R. Bates of Claremore; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
