The son of Bert and Mary Whitworth Lunsford was born November 19, 1927 in Claremore. He attended Claremore schools until the age of 16. It was then with the permission of his mother that he joined the United States Navy. It was in the Navy that he earned his high school diploma. Upon completing his tour in the Navy, he reenlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Nellis AFB near Las Vegas, Nevada. There he was introduced to Avis Cox, by her cousin who was a friend of Corky's. They would marry on April 3, 1948 at the Hitchin' Post in Las Vegas. The next several years Corky and his family were relocated to several bases across the states. When he left for Vietnam, his family moved from Florida to Claremore to be near his family. Before his retirement from the Air force Corky, served through World War II, Korea and the Vietnam War. After retirement Corky and his family moved to Las Vegas where he worked as a postman. However a short time later he and his family moved back to Claremore for good.
Corky loved going to the lake, water skiing and camping.
A patriot to his country, he started every day with a salute to his flag. He was also quick to help out many veteran organizations, and had a membership to a few.
