Michael W. Campbell (67) of Claremore, Oklahoma passed away on January 31, 2023.
Michael, known as Mike, was born to Thomas Wayne and Etta Campbell on January 14, 1956, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Mike is survived by his wife, Sharon, sons Adam Province and Mikey Campbell and his favorite child, his daughter, Aubree Pixley (Chris). Mike is also survived by his two grandsons, Mason Pixley and Van Province, his mom, Etta Campbell, brothers Chris Campbell and Randy Campbell (Danette) along with countless other family members. Mike was predeceased by his father, Thomas Wayne Campbell.
In his early years, Mike was an all-around athlete playing football, basketball and baseball at Claremore High School where he graduated with the class of 1974. Mike attended Oklahoma State University and Claremore Community College then began his career at Agrico where he worked for many years before continuing his career at American Airlines. Mike and Sharon were married for 44 long and happy years.
Among the many titles he had in his life, Papa Mike, was the one that mattered to him most. The joy of his life was spending time with his grandsons, Mason and Van. Through school or sporting events or just spending quality time at one of their favorite restaurants, Boomerang Diner, Papa Mike never missed a chance to be with his boys. Any time they needed him, he was there at the drop of a hat. As the boys grew older, Papa Mike enjoyed watching their favorite shows together and talking to them about their lives. He spent time talking to each of them the day before his unexpected passing. A memory the boys are lucky to have as they grieve the loss of their beloved Papa.
In addition to his children and grandchildren, he was a favorite uncle to his nieces Kelly and Kristen, and his triplets Skylar, Taylor and Randi who he treated and loved as his own. He never forgot to text them to let them know he was thinking of them on their birthdays and his eyes would light up any time he saw them.
There was no forgetting to give him a hug when you walked in a room, because he would remind you if you hadn’t! Mike’s love for his family was truly boundless. One of the things Mike’s family will miss most was how excited he always was for the next day. Why was he excited, you might wonder? Because he got better lookin’ every day! A joke that, in his mind, never got old.
In addition to his love for family, Mike was an avid sports fan of all kinds, but he was most passionate about cheering on his OU Sooners. Boomer!
A come-and-go celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at North Block Common in Claremore, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the ACLU (or an organization of your choosing that fights for the rights and liberties of all people) or to LifeShare of Oklahoma where in the end Mike was able to be a donor.
