Mass of Christian Burial for Michael Stimson will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Father Sylvanus Amaobi will officiate. A wake service will be held 7 p.m., Thursday, at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Vince Mrasek officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thurs. 1-7 p.m.
Michael passed away October 12, 2015 at the age of 71.
The son of Claude L. and Loretta Zurliene Stimson was born October 1, 1944 in Belleville, Illinois, where his father was serving in the Air Force at Scott Field. Upon his father's discharge the family moved to Great Bend, Kansas. After a few years and a couple more moves the Stimson family farm was established between Pryor and Claremore, OK. Michael attended the local school at Pleasant View. After 8th grade, he attended Pryor High School and then graduated from Choteau with the class of 1962. He enrolled at Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore and in 1964 joined the United States Air Force and served until honorably discharged in 1968. After attending the University of Oklahoma he met his future wife, Carolyn. They married July 1, 1972 in Churchville, NY. Michael graduated from Northeastern State University with a BS in education and taught in Nowata and Wann schools. He later left education and worked as a builder and general contractor.
His hobbies included reading, watching football, listening to country music, fishing and hunting. Michael belonged to the Chelsea Jaycees and served as Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus at St. Cecelia Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Loretta and brother, Daniel.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn of the home; children, Gregory Stimson and wife Adrienne, Heather Stimson, Stephen Stimson and Maureen Stimson; brothers, Terry Stimson and wife Bonnie, and Jerry Stimson and wife Sherry; sisters, Joan Sherwood, Theresa Webster, Robbie Zalta and husband Danny, and Claudette Downing and husband Reagan; grandchildren, Kenna, Justin, Gabriel and Dominic, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
