Claremore

Michael Allen (Mike) Washburn, aka The Land Man, died on June 30, 2023 of cancer in his home on Cherokee Street in Claremore, OK. Mike was born in Salina, KS on July 24, 1954. Mike moved to Claremore with his parents and sister not long after his birth. He grew up in Claremore and graduated from Claremore High School in 1972. He was a member of the board that helped create several reunions for his classmates. He was a master of various history and always made people laugh. He was a draftsman by trade, a Broker Associate in Real Estate for 39 years, a Real Estate Education Director at Solid Rock REALTORS from 2015-2020. He loved educating and training the new and upcoming REALTORS at Solid Rock REALTORS.  From 2020-2022, he lived with his wife, Kim, in NW Arkansas and was the Commercial Sales Manager at Auto Zone, which brought him to his ultimate love of cars. He would get the opportunity to visit various mechanic shops and see what old cars they were working on. His love for cars was undeniable, especially the older muscle cars. He could go on for days talking about different cars and their history. He also had a love of history for Claremore, OK. He is a fourth generation family member in Claremore. Frederick Rd is named after his grandpa Fred.  He was responsible for starting several car clubs around the Tulsa/Claremore areas. He helped start the Claremore History Museum. He was also on the Claremore Planning Commission for several years. Mike also graduated from the Claremore Volunteer Police Academy, which he thoroughly enjoyed. His family meant a lot to him and he loved getting together for cookouts, holidays and Sunday dinners. The most important thing in his life is his love for Jesus. Mike was an ordained Pastor through Cedar Point Church and loved on everyone that came in contact with him. He was always studying his Bible and various christian books. He would take notes everyday on his studies.  Mike loved to talk and never met a stranger. He will definitely be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Kim, of the home in Claremore; sister Teresa Washburn of Claremore, son Chris Washburn and his family of Pryor; sons John (J.R.) Ussery and Tyler Ussery of Claremore, nephew Tyler Robison of Claremore; and several grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Allen & Kathleen (Chambers) Washburn; and step-daughter Megan Green of New Deal, TX.
We would like to invite everyone who knew him to his Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 22nd at 1pm at Cedar Point Church. There will be burgers, dogs and all the fixin’s. We will also be holding a car show. This was Mike’s  final wish.
