Funeral service for Michael Ray “Mickey” Perry will be 11 a.m., Thurs., Dec. 19, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wed. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.

Mickey passed away Mon., Dec. 16, 2013, at Hillcrest Hospital Claremore at the age of 66.

The son of Jackson Charles Perry and Lottie Marie (Roof) Bitsko was born July 9, 1947, in Collinsville. Mickey was the oldest child and had four sisters. He graduated from Foyil High School in 1965. Mickey earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern State University in 1975.

He joined the Claremore Police Department in 1969 and left in 1979 as a patrol captain. He joined the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics in 1979 and retired in 1989 as a field supervisor.
In 1990, he became chief of police for the Claremore Police Department. He retired from that position in 2012.

Perry was elected mayor of Claremore in April 2012.

Mayor Perry was named Claremore’s “Progressive Citizen of the Year”. In addition to 41 years of dedicated law enforcement service, he has been deeply involved in community service organizations. He has worked with and become president of the Share the Spirit Foundation for 25 years, which each year collects, organizes and delivers as many as 1,000 food baskets to the needy of Rogers County. He also oversees the fundraising for “Send a Kid to Camp,” which has sent over 1,000 Rogers County children in need to camp to date as a direct result of Mickey’s efforts.

Perry has served on numerous boards and committees at both the State and local level including, but not limited to, the Blue Ribbon Committee, State Drug and Alcohol Policy Board, Region 2 Oklahoma Homeland Security Council, OSBI Commission, Regional 911 Board, William W. Barnes Children’s Advocacy Center, Tri-County CASA, Rogers County Youth Shelter, and the Emergency Medical Services Board.

Mickey married Kathy Lynn Rogge on March 15, 1968, in Claremore. He loved spending time with his family, and playing with his grandsons. He was a Yankees fan, and enjoyed watching sports. Mickey loved the people of Claremore, and frequently visited the area nursing homes and the Claremore Veterans Center.

Mickey was preceded in death by his mother Lottie, and sisters Linda and Debbie.

Mickey is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy, daughter Jennifer Perry-Lewis and husband Randy of Claremore, grandsons Tyler and Tanner Lacy of Claremore, step grandchildren Kyla Smith and Dillon Lewis, sister Lisa Martin, husband Keith of Claremore and children Landon and Laci, sister Shelly Langley of Kansas City, MO and sons Brandon, Brian, and Bradley, step-daughter Sheila Sellers and sons Rusty and Austin Howard of Claremore and brother-in-law Eddie Rogge and wife Connie and children Michelle, Brent, Brian, and Clifford of Laporte, TX.

In lieu of flowers donations in Mickey's memory can be made at two organizations that were very important to Mickey, the William C Barnes Children's Advocacy Center, 213 E Patti Page, Claremore, Ok 74017, Www.cacclaremore.org , and the Food for Kids of the Rogers County Salvation Army, c/o Georgi Bruce. 21555 S.
