Funeral service for longtime Chelsea resident, Nell Marshall Kinzer, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2017, at First Christian Church, with Pastor Richard Billings officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Mount Hope Cemetery in Afton, under the direction of Chelsea Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-6 p.m. Family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m.
Nell passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Tuesday, May 2. She was 95 years old.
Nell, one of eight children born to Emry and Dessie Seay Marshall, was born , February 8,1922 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She grew up and attended school in Afton, Oklahoma, graduating with the class of 1941. After graduation she attended business school in Miami, Oklahoma. She then returned home to Afton where she met Marvin Glenn Kinzer. They married on November 28, 1941. The couple made their home in Afton, before moving to Tulsa in 1951. It was then that she began working for McDonnell Douglas. She worked there in the planning department for more than 20 years. In 1973, Nell and her family bought a farm in rural northeastern Rogers County, where she lived until moving to Chelsea in 2000.
In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. In fact she was known as the fern lady to many of her neighbors. She also enjoyed going to church and to the senior citizens center, where she loved to play pitch with her friends. However her true love was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Emry and Dessie Marshall; husband, Marvin Glenn Kinzer, seven siblings, and great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Kinzer.
Survivors include her sons, Don Kinzer and wife Joan, and Dean Kinzer, all of Chelsea, grandchildren, Donna Fisher, Janell Kennedy, Denia Taylor, Arminda Ferguson, Tami Thompson, Tommy Kinzer, Amanda Reed, Tony Kinzer, Daniel Kinzer, step-grandchildren, Rick Ward, Tim Ward and Christi Spears, 21 great-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-grandchild, and many extended family and friends.
