Service for Nellie Ann Serino will be 2:00p.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at MMS-Payne Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 21, from 1-8pm. Nellie passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Wood Manor Nursing Home. She was 83.
Born October 17, 1934 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Millard Nelson and Mae (Davis) Glover, Nellie attended grade school at Sageeyah; she finished high school at Claremore, graduating with the class of 1954. Following her graduation, she went on to college at Bible Baptist College in Springfield, Missouri, majoring in music. When she finished college, Nellie stayed in Missouri and played piano and organ for a local church. Later an opportunity arose for her to move to Albuquerque, there she began working for Smith’s Food and Drug as a typesetter. She kept up her piano and organ playing at Berean Baptist Church. On May 28, 1972, Nellie married Durward Serino and the couple made their home in Albuquerque. When Smith’s Food and Drug sold to Kroger Foods, Nellie made a move to Arizona and worked for them until her retirement in 1994. After she retired they moved to Claremore to be near family.
Nellie loved life and made the most of every situation. She enjoyed making her home beautiful, decorating with art and items she made. It was music that made Nellie happy, it was her life and she was most passionate about it.
Those family members that survive include her sister, Josephine Dees of Claremore and her brother John W. Glover of Broken Arrow. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Durward, her brother Richard Glover and her sisters Louise Dees and Norma Cox.
