Funeral services for Niketa Basks will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 11:00am at Westside Holiness Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024, from 3:00pm-8:00pm with family receiving friends from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Westside Holiness Church. .
Niketa Sue Basks (better known as Nana), age 78 passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024 at her home in Claremore, Oklahoma surrounded by family, friends and other loved ones.
Niketa was born on June 2, 1945 in Whitefield, Oklahoma to parents, Ballie and Evelyn Barbee. During her early childhood, she and her family moved to Catoosa, Oklahoma where she was raised and attended school with her three siblings Lucky, Danny, and Gail. On November 28, 1964, Niketa married the love of her life, Leroy Basks. Niketa and Leroy shared 59 years together, making a life and raising their 3 children, Lawanna, Ballie and Bridgett.
Niketa can be remembered for helping others and serving her community. For more than 20 years, Niketa and Leroy helped establish and run the Claremore little league baseball program. Additionally, Niketa spent numerous years driving the Rogers County adult daycare van, providing safe transportation for elders in her community. Later in life, Niketa was happiest when she was supporting her grandchildren, camping in the summertime, or spending time with her family.
In 1986, Niketa dedicated her life to the Lord, and was a faithful member of Westside Holiness Church in Claremore, Oklahoma until her last day.
Niketa is preceded in death by her parents, Ballie and Evelyn Barbee, brother Danny Barbee, and nephews Jeremy and Adam Barbee.
Niketa is survived in death by her husband, Leroy Basks, children, Billy and Lawanna Wolfe, Ballie and Vonda Basks and David and Bridgett Cox, siblings, Lucky and Paula Barbee and Gail Barbee, grandchildren Cody Basks, Dakoda and Kaitlynn Basks, Jordan and Allison Basks, Denzel Cox, Cheyanna and Jonathan Grossmann, Brandon and Emily Jones, Dustin Basks, Colton Basks, Jonathan Cox and Skye Wolfe, great grandchildren, Jaxson and Nova Basks, Shiloh and Parker Grossmann, Zavaya and Zariah Jones, and Camden Basks.
Niketa is also survived by her honorary grandchildren; Liberty, LaNae, Laci, Lane, Valissa and Valen and numerous nieces and nephews.
